Is Buddhism a Religion Or a Way of Life?

Presented by the Buddhist Society of London
Saturday 2nd August 2025 at Kensington Unitarian Church

Intro to Meditation and Meditation Practice

Participants are introduced to the essentials of the quiet sitting practice (zazen) and are given guidelines for practicing at home, given suggestions for practice in their daily lives, and helped to discover for themselves how to practice meditation in their ordinary day-to-day lives. The session ends with a short period of formal meditation and chanting.

Is Buddhism a Religion or Way of Life?

With an estimated 500 million to one billion followers, scholars consider Buddhism one of the major world religions. As a non-theistic faith with no god or deity to worship, some scholars describe Buddhism as a philosophy or a moral code rather than an organised religion.

Our Main Speaker

Dr Desmond Biddulph is President of the Buddhist Society, founded in Britain in 1924. He lives in London and is the author of 1001 Pearls of Buddhist Wisdom (DBP) and is a Jungian Analyst.
